Nonfiction (as Amanda Nevius)

I write nonfiction across the genres of popular science and fashion, with published pieces in Remineralize the Earth and Just Femme & Dandy, exploring topics from sustainable ecosystems to queer style narratives.

My most recent book, Bloemetje: a speculative retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's Thumbelina fairy tale, is available internationally as an ebook, paperback, and hardcover.

My parents did NOT know what to do with the unhinged creative they were handed. You asked; I listened! Thank you to everyone who braved the snow yesterday for our second St*b & Sip @themelodymakerclintonma!! This lovely group was so so creative with their takes on the Feeling the Love Heart Garland and the Dark and Stormy hoop. I so enjoyed getting to spend time with these folks and see what they made with the prompts, materials, and a little guidance. 🥹 My fellow crafters know the pain of overcommitting to handmade gifts but these little needle felted magnets I made for the holiday season were ideal for gifts for friends. SOLD OUT in under a week!! 🥹💖 I’ve started designing needle felting kits for beginners featuring everything I wished for when I was starting out myself: SOLD OUT as of January 27th! 💕 Maybe I personify things too much but I can just see this book sitting on a shelf of the “war room” section of the hobby store for 33 years thinking something was wrong with it until I came along and yoinked it immediately for my WWII collection. (I rode in a real WWII half-track last year and now I have a THING for them.) If it can take a used book 33 years to find a place where it’s loved and cherished maybe be patient with yourself and how you’re feeling too. This is the biggest cross-stitch I’ve completed AND the first time I’ve finished it in a way beyond sticking it in a hoop quickly. I thought about giving up on finishing my vision for an ornament when Christmas came and went. But then I thought….whose deadline is it? I can just leave the tree up until I’m done. I make my own timelines 👏🏼👏🏼 this is a blend of cross-stitch, embroidery, and sewing.
